Metamorphosis, Act One Posted on: 21 Mar 2014 by George Robinson Taking on a play as popular and well respected as Metamorphosis is a daunting task. Attempting to add our own unique spin is borderline terrifying. Steven Berkoff is an institution and working on a play with his name attached is an honour. I have often wondered what he might think about our interpretation. Reading the script, it is clear that he had a very specific vision for Kafka’s story on the stage. Express scribe 5.63 keygen. I would like to think that Mr Berkoff would appreciate our approach. The ensemble cast allows us to perfectly encapsulate the major themes that Kafka explored in his original novella.

By mirroring Gregor’s movements and emotions for long periods of the play, the ensemble illustrates the claustrophobia felt by the family as they struggle to cope with the creature residing in their home. The ensemble creates a striking image on an otherwise simplistic stage and their constant presence heightens the uncomfortable atmosphere. Images described in Berkoff’s script are brought to life by physicality of the cast, effectively utilising stylistic techniques to express the themes of the play. We are representing Act One, Cardiff University’s drama society and Metamorphosis will wrap up this academic year’s calendar.
